[DIY] Re: textured paint removal

It takes a little pressure to put the keys back on. You may have broken
then clip. Replaced keyboard if wife's Dell laptop for about $30 on
Amazon.

Re: [DIY] Computer keys

Not familiar first hand but did a search.  Underneath the key are little white brackets as this guy shows in the following video.  Are they still in place and not broken?  If so, I think you just need to do a little more wiggling and finagling to get the key in place.  Press the key down in the center with even pressure.

If you need replacement brackets or keys or other parts, it looks like you can get them here.  I'm not affiliated....just saw this site on youtube.

Perhaps even your local computer shop might have some type of non-oem universal parts for it.

I need help.... and this is weird, I know,..... but I had a fly land on my laptop keyboard.  I hit it (what I thought was very lightly) but two of my keys went flying off.  One is the F2 key and one the @2 key.  I have not been able to press them back in. I am wondering if that is possible to do?  Can you buy extra laptop keys? Is it fixable?  I would really, really hate to buy a new laptop just because 2 keys don't work.

If it is just drywall mud texture, I can picture that an oscillating tool with a scraper blade would work quickly; (just a thought)

Re: [DIY] RE: textured paint removal

Having lived in many parts of the country I've seen many things.  I recall one family in Newburyport, Ma. who had a carpeted bathroom. Floor, walls, and ceiling, including the shower.  To top it off they had bought only 1/2 of the house which was a large 3 storied colonial which had never been intended to be split so you can only imagine the plumbing and heating nightmare that ensued.   This being less than a mile from the ocean, can't you just picture the mold problem they must have had later on?

I'm really liking the idea of just covering it with paneling.  It will be difficult, but not near as difficult as sanding this crap down completely.

I'm not sure what these people were thinking, but I'd like to hunt them down and make them undo it.  It is not only in our master bathroom on all four walls, but it is in one of the bedrooms as well.

I appreciate all of the good suggestions!

[DIY] Re: toilets & septic systems

Septic Tank systems usually need an enzyme additive 1-2/ year, but repeated drain problems usually indicate a broken pipe or roots.but, in today's technology, they can run a camera to diagnose correctly, and can save thousands over digging it all up to (blindly) diagnose (Hundreds $$ for camera, I suspect) (Guessing 1-4 man-hours plus equipment fees).

The other septic tank potential disaster can be a running toilet, or leaky faucet causing tank overfill/ overflow, especially in rainy weather when ground saturated, or when you went out of town for a week on vacation and (unknowingly) left a toilet running.

Bath "wipes" are also a plumbing disaster, especially w/ septic.  London, England recently found a septic "wipe" clog in one of their ancient systems that was the size of an 18-wheeler.... they do NOT easily dissolve, despite label wording

RE: [DIY] textured paint removal

Sounds like someone made a bathroom out of an outside porch and you're looking at the old outside wall.

I had a similar problem, but not as bad. What I did was put 1/4 inch sheetrock up over it.  Yes, there's taping and mudding and priming and painting, but once it's done, you'll be pretty proud of the change.

Subject: [DIY] textured paint removal

I am trying to remodel my bathroom, but there is a major glitch.  The previous owners painted the walls with some serious texturing.  So much texturing one would not want to accidentally bump into the wall for fear of being scratched up where the paint significantly sticks out from the wall into a point.  I have tried sanding the paint down, but this is taking an incredibly long time to do and the paint dust is everywhere.  Short of replacing the drywall altogether, what are my other options?

Re: [DIY] RE: textured paint removal

beaded paneling painted white does a nice job of covering over textured walls and gives the
bathroom a nice "country living" atmosphere.

I mean really.  Textured ceilings maybe but *walls*???

Why anyone in their right mind would texturize a bathroom is a mystery. Sanding would be the only solution other than plastering over and that is also going to be a lot of work.

Maybe there is a thin paneling that is available.
I also am having to come up with a bathroom solution to heavily textured  heavy vinyl  wallpaper that was put over an original plaster wall. The paper will not steam off nor is it easily sanded off.
Such is the joys of an older home.

I put a gray water barrel beside mine and use the water to irrigate. Works fine.

you worry about the TP, but how many of you have your washing machine drain to the septic tank??  i put a filter on mine and was supprised at the amount of lint that was trapped, and lint does not decompose and will most certainly clog a leach field line..  and as for "pumping out the tank" it all depends on the soil in your drain field. in SE missouri, the soil is crappy clay so the smart ones have the system pumped about every 3-4 years.

i would much rather pay the price to have it pumped out every 3 years than to have to clean a backup in the basement even once.

i also have a cleanout filter on the pipe from the septic tank to the distribution box" overkill ??? maybe.
