Hi everyone,
There was a very gradual minor leak from our garbage disposal to the cabinet under our kitchen. A cardboard tote caught most of this but the moisture and some water leaked out. By the time we caught this, there were mold stains on the bottom and bottom front cabinet -- about an inch long, about a centimeter thick.
We got the plumbing repaired and cleaned up as much as we could using bleach spray and CLR mold cleaner. I also used a floor fan on it for about 3 straight days. The remaining stains dried out to a gray color. I tried scrubbing further with a toothbrush and the CLR mold cleaner but they were pretty stubborn. Also, the front part of the cabinet's bottom (a formica layer) has bubbled.
I can confirm that the stain is NOT spreading and feels dry. It just looks discolored at this point. The formica layer also has not bubbled any further.
The plumber told us that once it dries, you can put a linoleum sheet over the cabinet bottom for greater protection and to hide over the look. He also said that the mold stain is now just a stain, and as long as it doesn't grow, we were fine; we'd probably just have to restain it or paint the cabinets at some point (we were thinking of doing that anyway).
Just wanted to sanity check that the DIY experts here agree with that? Thanks!
Mike
