[DIY] Troubleshooting Toilet Supply Line Drip

Hi everyone,

I just replaced my standard flush valve with a dual flush valve, and since I had to take apart the tank to do that, I replaced the bolts and main gasket too. I did all the usual leak checks and things seemed fine and the new mechanism work until about an hour in, I felt the supply line and noticed some "sweat" by the nut that connects the supply line hose to the fill valve. Note that this was NOT at the tank bottom, but definitely at the nut.

I turned off the supply line and drained the toilet so there's about an inch left. I've left it there all day to help identify the leaks.

So far, there are no leaks -- not at the fill valve/tank junction, and not hose/fill valve junction. It appears this drip only occurred when the supply line was on and pressurized.

Does this mean the flexible hose should be replaced (like there's a crack in the locking nut)? Or is there always some discharge any time you disconnect/reconnect/reset the supply line?

I should note that when I had disconnected the hose for a few days because the flush valve was leaking and I wanted to dry the whole thing out before I had time to replace it. During that time, a few drips would come up to the nut. I figured that was just air pressure pushing the remainder out but not sure if that's relevant.

Thanks!

Mike

Re: [DIY] Washing Machines

thank you Jan
I ended up going with a Maytag again. but this time it was one with the agitator.
And there are now options for more water!!! Yaaaaay!!!
9 years ago there was no option and like you, we have well water and I feel laundry gets a better cleaning and rinsing when water can move through it.

I also went with a smaller tub. And since using this machine I realize I could have gone even smaller and reached the bottom easier lol

The only brand I know that makes a regular washer is Speed Queen.  I was told they would go to an HE water saving machine the next year - which would have been 2019.  Didn't buy one so have no new knowledge.  I bought a Maytag that had an agitator.  I generally use the deep fill for everything, we are on a well so it isn't a problem and I think clothes need to have enough water to move around to get clean.   I disliked the no agitator even more than I did the HE :)  I do miss the hand wash basket that was built into the Samsung I had but that's all.
