6-year life seems short, but I may be wrong. A (properly installed) water heater with (proper) cathodic protection/ isolation is the key, and the SACRIFICIAL ANODE ROD can be replaced fairly cheaply to extend the life of the tank. The (manufacturer installed sacrificial anode) inside the tank gets eaten away over time (size/ mfr testing determine warranty period), and (when gone, then tank starts to corrode/ rust. Call a plumber and ask about cost to replace anode rod (my GUESS= $75-100) to gain another 6-years protection. My 2-cents worth (Terry/ Memphis). p.s. If COPPER piping is directly screwed into tank, (without special fittings) this is often the cause of the (battery action) corrosion, I.e. short-life
