Yes, you can get a lot more lot with the LED and not exceed the wattage limit. Those wattage ratings are actually based on heat created from incandescent bulbs so as not to overheat the wiring.
, do note however, that some LED bulbs State not to be used in fully enclosed fixtures. They are very sensitive to overheating themselves. Be sure the bulb you use says that it can be used in a fully enclosed fixture.

I think what you want is more lumens. Generally there are more lumens coming out of a 100w tungsten bulb but then there is also more heat. Look for LED bulbs with more lumens that your current 60w tungsten bulb and then you get less heat, better savings on electricity and more light.
