John, we have bought a two-story Home Depot shed and are very impressed with the quality of the building. It was delivered in an unassembled *package* and built on a concrete foundation of our initiative.
The porch that we assumed was just a part of the *package* was a whole other issue in our county.
Although the materials were great in the construction, the builders did not follow the building code for our county and there has to be some adjustment for the porch and the shed to pass inspection approval.
Earnestly, I would advise you to let any permits required to be obtained by the company you buy from.
In the case of our shed, it needed two permits- one for the shed and another one for the porch.
Our county changed the building code for porches and decks this year and it was an oversight by the builders.
The company has been nice to deal with but it has been a long and drawn out affair.
Depending on where you live and the requirement for setbacks and your own county's building codes, your desire to make it into a home will have to be addressed. In our case
it is a *space-extension* for all our hobby stuff and pets relocated while we try to get our home ready to put on the market. The shed will hold all my craft and art supplies, un-clutter my home
and give my pets a place to stay when the house is being presented to buyers. (I have a crazy amount of pets).
I knew someone who had a shed put on a piece of forest land to use as a hunting retreat , and most likely some rural areas don't really care what you do with it... storage or dwelling,
but you need to check with your own government regulations before deciding.
I love the quality of the sturdiness of this shed and it is nice to see the amount of bolts and nails, hangers and brackets used to do a first-class job.
I think a good foundation is essential.
