Continuous clean was achieved by using a very rough surface coating for the oven's interior. If you looked at it under a strong magnifying glass it looked like a lava flow. All of this surface is what allowed spills to eventually burn off under normal baking temperatures. This was discontinued because women complained about how rough the surface was and how it caught and dragged on a cloth when attempting to wipe up large spills. Larger spills could be cleaned up quicker by operating the oven on broil or the highest temperature setting for a length of time.
re: cleaners, I understand the Avvacodo Green continuous clean, (same as my wife previous) but do not believe that feature still available; However, i have a can of (name brand) non-hazardous, no gloves/ no fumes oven cleaner in my shop for cleaning saw blades of tree sap..., so worth looking for... seemed to work well/ fast.
