I've worked places where we had them. That may be a different quality than what you will find, but was also a dozen or more years ago.
Like any carpet, they wear out, but as I was told with synthetic fiber carpets, they "ugly out" before they wear out, so for relatively short term they should be good for you. Moving heavy furniture over them was not a problem, and replacing stained tiles didn't become a problem until there was significant time, wear, and fading. One facility I worked in had a sort of Oriental rug look in some rooms, with a border and all.
Another place had them on steps. Ugly, potentially hazardous with edges lifting. Again, after several years of use.
As long as your base is fairly clean and level, they should suit your purpose if you can find a good deal on them.
