[DIY] laundry venting
I'm running a new laundry line. It'll be a 2" run for just under 20 feet before it gets to the 3" main.
Here's the situation: the vent I want to run is going out the side of the house but it'll be from the standpipe before the water gets to the P-trap. Personally, I don't see a problem with that but venting usually comes from the other side of the P-trap. Does anyone know if that method is not up-to-code?

Re: [DIY] Tekton #6555 Rivet Gun
This may be the reason. I used the same model but not the same gun on another tumbler and it worked fine until it jammed and then I bought this. I used the rivets that came with the gun this time. The other one I used different rivets but I could not find them so I used the rivets that came with the gun. I will check the length.

Re: [DIY] Tekton #6555 Rivet Gun
A pop rivet tool is pretty simple and not much can go wrong with it, if applied with the "trick" of making it work.

I bought a Tekton #6555 Rivet Gun. It is supposed to have a lifetime warranty according to the package but I have talked to the service technician and he is of little help. The first one did not work and I sent it back. The first time I used this I had problems. I am trying to install a hasp for a tumbling composter on a steel drum. The first rivet was hard to squeeze the handles. The rivet popped and the stem is still on the rivet. The second rivet was even harder to squeeze and the rivet worked though. The third rivet was not that hard to squeeze. I only squeezed about half way and the rivet popped but the stem was still on the rivet. Usually I have to squeeze about 2 or 3 times before it pops. The guy at Tekton basically is saying it is my fault and I should get a different rivet gun. I asked him about lubricating it and he says it does not need lubricating and that all the guns were checked before shipping.
What do people in this forum suggest I do to make it work? Is the best thing to do with the rivet stems, just saw them off?
Thanks
GB

Re: [DIY] Problem with scale buildup
Thanks for everyones input. I did not care for the softener we had in CA nor the added salt - although I'm sure there are better models today. It was actually installed outside which I don't think they do in this area. Our water heater and pressure tank take up all the space in the utility closet so would have to figure out where we could place it. I've looked at the electromagnetic "faux" softeners - hard to sift through what is hype and what is not. Think I will try the Calgon for a few weeks and see if I notice a difference before we purchase anything and see about getting a water test kit.

Re: [DIY] Re: Problem with scale buildup
We are on a well that at times gets very rusty water. We installed a Hague whole house water system 10 years ago and have been very pleased with it! We also installed a RO Unit for the cooking and drinking use.
Calgon
