Thank you for the explanation Doug.
When we had our 9 foot picture window replaced the frame had to be changed at the suggestion of the man who installed it. He claimed it would be less expensive than special ordering a window to fit the existing frame.
It was shocking to see how little or no insulation had been around that frame.
I instructed the man finishing off the the trim to put insulation in the space. I even gave him the insulation to use.
He never put one tiny fluff of insulation in there so I did it myself. When he came back the next day to finish up... he never mentioned the insulation.
Sorry to have gotten off on a different tangent
Pretty sure that all of the rest of our windows would have to be special ordered to fit the existing frame

Aide from low-e or not low-e, you need to make a decision as to how to replace your windows, i.e., new construction or replacement.By replacement, I mean windows whose frames are inserted into your current frames. You lose a couple of inches of glass area in each direction but it's a much lower cost, easier installation.Or, you install new construction windows, totally replacing your current frames, etc. However, one then has to rework the siding around each window - a much more expensive proposition. One can get replacement (insert) windows for as low as $150/ea. I've installed dozens by myself (I'm a landlord with multiple properties). Some are now 30 years old without problems, even with hard tenant use.The windows and the work involved with new construction types may cost you a good $500/ea - a much more expensive proposition.Extra features such as frosted glass, low-e, divided panes, etc can be ordered in each type.Doug
