Re: [DIY] Christmas Eve:

My first real Christmas as an adult was 1956 at my cousins home in Peabody, Mass.  Jimmy would get the tallest tree he could find and after cutting off the top, wedge it between the floor and the ceiling.  He would then cover his creation with as many lights as he could find often numbering into the 100's of the large bulbs, until no further illumination for the home was needed.  Jimmy was an electrician and he ran special circuits just to carry the annual electrical load for his Christmas Tree.  One year the frozen tree he had selected warmed up and expanded punching a very neat hole through the plastered ceiling necessitating its later removal in sections.  I suppose it is one of the gifts of nostalgia, but still in my mind there is nothing that quite compares to a Christmas in Northern New England.  So Suesan, when you have your annual cup of well fortified eggnog think of me, one old man living in the heartland, immersed in the memories of a lifetime, and enjoying his second childhood.  Childhood is in fact better the second time around.

Very well said Dale, and a wonderful, Merry Christmas to you and your family.  Christmas Eve has always been Christmas in my family because that was when the entire extended family was together and Santa Claus arrived to distribute gifts.  We could see occasionally see the light from Rudolph's nose as he looked for the house and each of us wanted to be the first to hear the reindeer on the roof...there was no fireplace at my grandparents home so he had to climb off the roof and come in through the front door carrying a big burlap bag over his shoulder.   After he sat down and opened the bag he looked around for each child as he pulled out a gift and he always knew who had been naughty or nice.   One year my older sister told me there was no Santa Claus, it was just our Uncle Jim.  I didn't believe her then and I don't believe her now!!  Merry Christmas everyone!

I want to wish each and everyone of you a blessed Christmas and a joy filled year to come, but you just may have to make the effort and DIY.
