[DIY] Re: Cat barrier

Cats are pretty smart. Once the cat learns the layout of the house and the nature of that wall, you shouldn't have any problems. However, make sure the top of that wall is not slippery. If you have to, get some color matching paint and add sand texture to it. Then paint the top of the wall. This will help reduce the chance the cat leaps to the wall and skids off the other side. Additionally, cats have super strong sense of smell. Find a smell that the cat dislikes, but you happen to enjoy, then make sure to put your new air-freshener all along that wall. Lemon, orange, rosemary, lavender come to mind. You can probably get a nice long list from your vet.

Again, once the cat gets familiar with that wall, it is less likely to be a safety hazard. If you still have the original cat, she may teach the new cat to watch out for that spot.
