Hi Ken,
I believe the material you are thinking of is what is usually referred to as "Traffic Bond" or "Highway Bond". The finer grades, like 1/4", make an excellent, almost cement-like driveway, as the nominally 1/4" chips are mixed with "fines".
This material is usually best purchased from a commercial supplier & delivered in bulk. You can occasionally find something similar in bags at the "big box" home centers, but it usually does not contain "sharp" enough chips or enough fines to really lock together & provide a durable surface.

I used some stone about the size of 2B gravel, some years ago for a small driveway. Once the stone was in place for a few months it became a solid surface that did not move. It bonded on its own. I cannot remember what it was called. I am asking for help finding out what stone this is.
