Re: [DIY] cheaper LED bulbs

Me too.  The failures were way premature.  I learned not to buy the cheap junk available on the direct Chineses websites.  They all failed.  I had two Cree bulbs failed (out of 20). Cree said there were problems with one particular line of their bulbs (since discontinued).  They did not require a receipt or any proof of purchase. They just took my address and sent new bulbs to me. I have had no failures since that time. I've also had premature failures with flourescent bulbs.  I wouldn't buy any of the ecosmart bulbs (Home depot private label).

I do love the very low power draw (and reduced heat) of LED bulbs.

I was shocked when I checked prices at home depot recently. Phillips has soft white non-dimmable LED 60 "watt-equivalent" (800 lumens) bulbs for $2.50 each. These were regular prices, not sale prices.
