There is a catch about these bulb life claims.  There is another part to the bulbs which may fail sooner, a Driver.
It is similar to a fluorescent ballast.

I was shocked when I checked prices at home depot recently. Phillips has soft white non-dimmable LED 60 "watt-equivalent" (800 lumens) bulbs for $2.50 each. These were regular prices, not sale prices.
