We have concrete floors, only wood subfloor, over the concrete, is in the toilet area which is tiled. Remember this was a horse barn & weekend retreat/vacation home for relatives. The utility room is next to the toilet area and plumbers who installed new water heater etc cracked the floor tiles along the edge, which allowed the old grout and more tiles to fall out. There is now about a 12" section of wood showing, and we can see an area that may have been wet off and on for years. The shower and toilet area are back to back - whenever the shower head is adjusted, water leaks (?) inside the wall and comes up/spreads into the toilet area. I bought a new shower head but invaribaly someone forgets, and the wood gets damp again. It's no big deal to tear out the tile and replace the wood but having to tear out the wall is, and this is the only bathroom on the ground floor. Any thoughts on some way to "fix' this or just replace the wood and hope for the best?
