Here in Tennessee we have quite a few houses with lathe and plaster.  The paddle bits end up without the outside tips to cut the wood.  I usually keep them for drilling through plaster again sice they do work well even without those edges. 


If you're making a larger hole, say for and electrical box, the lathe is going to give you problems.  Once one side is cut, the board will flap with the blade of the saw and the plaster between the baords will make a bigger mess than what you'd end up otherwise.  Try to  remove the plaster first, cut the side closest to the stud, then hold the boards when you cut them individually.  BE CAREFUL NOT TO CUT YOUR FINGERS.


If you are installing a blue box for electrical junction, you'll meed to either get longer screws for the wings or trim the lathe that's on the top and bottom of the hole where the wings go.  I prefer the former.

house was built in the 40.s wall are plaster and lathe im think not plaster but concrete burned up few bit why a hammer drill?

dont know why? any help be apperciated
