Update on this -- so I told my HVAC guy about what I found regarding the flow and he said it looked good for now, just stick a vacuum hose behind the dryer and suck as much loose lint as possible. Then when the new one is installed, take a few minutes and vacuum behind there while they're unloading it.
Then keep an eye on it for a few weeks to see if it still kicks out lint. If it doesn't, then it should be good to go.
