> My well has a submersible 240V 1 1/2 HP pump about 280 feet down in the hole. Can anyone tell me how big a generator I'd need to run it? Thanks, Ed
1 HP is ~ 750 W. Due to losses, 1Kw is better for 1 HP.
As said, start-up is often the issue.
Typical problems with this require 3x, so now we are at 3xz750w or 3x 1KW ... 3 kw
Now you have 1.5, so 4.5 KW ought to be ok.
Maybe mibne would work as it is $kw w a %kw surge.
ALLLL this said, I have used a 4Kw gen, rated at that continuous
BUT rated at 5Kw Surge... and run 3 households, refridges and
emergency stuff. Perhaps none were on at the same time. Dunno.
If you get the data from the pump and look at tit on the net,
then mebe call the company, SOMEone will be able to tell you IF,
IF, this pump has a start-up surge and how much it is. Not all
motors have a significant start up surge. It depends.
Fridge motors do.
Mine was stolen.
In autumn, garden stuff goes on sale b4 they pack it up.
Models deleted next yr, w/o gas caps, etc, are cheap. I paid
1/2 price for a chipper shredder, roto-tiller, and generator.
Parts were shipped to me free from the company. Gas caps,
air filter covers that came loose at home do someone came
back & stole them, etc.
FWIW, Troy-Built. Troy uses dif company's engines on the same
stuff at dif prices. Sadly, mine weren't Honda, but the Briggs
& Stratton's work fine too.
My gen now is way overkill. 8 Kw & 12 surge. BUT elec start
which will help the wife if I am not there. NICE wheels! LOL!
You can TELL someone used it an hour and returned it, ~"Didn't
like it." Sad, but true...
