Hi Joyce;
Most pine is pretty soft, but there are hard finishes
that can be used. Most softwood flooring is fir, not pine.

Yes they do, but scuffs turn into ruts after a while.

I worked on that idea a few years ago. It seems quite
workable. You could even use biscuits at the ends,
to make sure the corners don't turn up.

They make hardwood plywoods, such as oak, maple
and birch, that are quite economical. I doubt you would like
the maple or birch, but the darker heavier grained, and harder
oak, is very nice, and would be more durable than a pine.

Strength is not an issue, since the flooring will be
setting atop a subflooring (I assume). Oak plywood
will have a harder surface, especially if you go over
it with a hard finish. It will back the finish much better
than a soft pine can. But if you do let it wear through
the finish and down into the wood, the plywood only
has one ply of the nice oak, while the car siding is
solid pine, all the way through.

I am not sure why you would do that.
Isn't it flat on the back side?
