Thanks everyone for the information and tips. I got some pre-mixed mud and opted for the adhesive mesh tape. I noticed that they also have an extra thin version of the mesh tape for twice the cost (same price but half as much of the product).
As far as I can tell, you don't need to mud the area or the gaps (where the drywall meet) before applying the mesh tape. A question. Once you apply the tape, are you simply mudding over and around the taped area (feathering out and such) or is the objective also trying to fill the gaps by pushing the mud through the holes in the mesh tape? __._,_.___
