Re: [DIY] Looking for plug-in LED track lighting

In san diego the top tier can reach 38 cents/KwH for "excessive usage"

Our highest bill was $300 for hot August days.

Our best was $-32.00  (yes minus) with no A/C sunny days pumping
our solar onto the grid...

But $13,000 for solar will take 18 years to amortize.

All our bulbs now are either CF (is that what they are called?)  or LED

In California when the lifeline electricity rate ($0.15/KwH) is exceeded, we then pay $0.32/KwH. It is definitely worth shifting to lower energy consumption bulbs in this scenario.

If you are happy with the existing fixture, just buy LED or CFL bulbs for it.  But really, the power regular bulbs use is not enough to notice on your electric bill.  3- 60 watt bulbs burning 10 hours a day is only 54 KWH @ say 10 cents per KWH is $5.40  per month.  If it is only on say 6-11 PM, it's 1/2 of that.

Hi, NSTAR (my electric company) has just announced a 29% increase in electric rates beginning January 1, 2015.  Currently I have a 3-foot, 3-light (normal type bulbs) plug-in track lighting unit over my couch.  It is on most o the time I am home.  I'm betting I could save the cost of a new LED unit after a few months with the new rates.  Sooooooo, does anybody know of a brand (or source) for plug-in track lighting?  It does not have to be fancy.

Perhaps a silly question, but would there be a problem plugging in such a unit into a normal two-plug outlet where the other plug is used for a power strip into which a cordless phone charger and iPad charger are plugged?

Thank you.
