I would like to put a floating floor into a room that has a 2 brick hearth along one wall.
I have done other rooms without a hearth and adhered to the quarter inch gap all around.
But I would rather not leave a gap between the new floor and the brick. Neighbor had a floor put in by a pro and they actually cut a channel in the brick to provide that clearance. What a mess.
If I allowed 1/2 inch to the wall opposite the hearth, would the floor grow and shrink properly? After some time, would I get a gap to the brick anyway?
Thanks.
