We're still using our AC from time to time here in California, as the weather's been hit and miss. Used it earlier today and it was status quo. Tonight, the humidity was bad, so we kicked it on. Within a minute, we got a strong plastic smell -- definitely not gas or burning exhaust. It reminded me the smell of a band-aid once you take it off the wrapper.
We turned off the AC but left the fan on (so the blower in the attic was running but the compressor outside was off). I also changed the air filter, as that was overdue. The smell dissipated after a few minutes following that, though I'm not sure if that was related.
We stayed with just the fan on for about 30 minutes and the smell didn't reappear. I'm running the AC right now and it's been going for about 10 minutes with no smell.
I just wanted to sanity check that this didn't sound like anything worth hiring HVAC to check out unless it repeats? Could it be as something simple as some pollen or debris got in the intake?
Thanks! As always, everyone here is super helpful, it's much appreciated.
