Hi Bill;
Efficiencies vary greatly, so that is not always true.
A dehumidifier is basically an air condeitioner that
puts its heat back into the room. Energy efficiency
of dehumidifiers is measured in liters of water removed
per kilowatt-hour (L/kWh). Even amoung Energy Star models,
efficiencies vary from a low of 1.2L/kWh up to 4.17/kWh.
a variation that indicates nearly 3 1/2 times the efficiency.
(uses less than 29% as much energy for the same amount of
moisture removed) Non Energy Star models will use even
more energy than the worst of the Energy Star models.
Larger capacity models are easier to make energy efficient.
Here is a page with a link to a list of Energy
star dehumidifiers.

Hi Christine;
If by capacity you are indicating pints per hour,
then those numbers suggest that the larger one will
use 14.6% less energy, for the same moisture removal.
In other words, the smaller one will use 17% more
electricity to do the same job.
