Christine, I felt the same way, reading of 2 vapor barriers.
It's instinctive. ~"You'll trap moisture between them!"
But I can't see it.
If the 6mil is applied without seams, or the seams are
correctly taped, no moisture could ger TO the 2nd, foil barrier.
"Usually" the 6mil is simply stapled onto the studs.
This is ok, but they will rust away in a cpl decades.
You can opt to use double sticky tape. The cement
board screws are going to penetrate it anyway.
The foil can act to reflect heat back toward the room.
Let me plug a grout sealer - It won't benefit me.
TileLab. They have a yellow bottle that costs twice the
competition. Mebe 7 whole dollars a pint. Then they have
a green bottle that's $20. (Unless they've changed the
colors.) Instructions are to apply it to the grout, only.
they make a neat lil bottle for this for $5, with a brush
on one end. Squeeze and go. Saves sealer! Saves mess.
Says, when done, redo, until no more can be absorbed.
This is a tedious PITA job. But important.
But the green bottle stuff seems to need just 1 application,
and instead of a suggested longevity of a year, I thiMk
it says, 20. Maybe my memory fails. But I love this stuff.
Worth the money as a grout sealer in MY book.
Grout needs to DRY a cpl-3 days before you apply this.
Shower with a friend... elsewhere, IOW... LOL!
Good work takes a lil time.
I hate Pros. Gimmee a CraftsPerson. Pros have their
place! But they know every corner they can cut.
