Wow, Deborah, so smart! Wish I had thought of that myself. I will try to track down the parts list, because I, too, would think the higher capacity would have a different motor. The interesting thing is that the 50 pint has a fabulous review with approximately 60 customers. The 70 pint has less feedback, and not as good, although the complaint is just about noise, and that is subjective.

If they both have the same reservoir capacity, the 50 pint vs 70 pint must be an hourly/daily capability rating. choice would probably depend on how much humidity you have to handle and room size (air flow).

Unit dimensions are the same, reservoir capacity is the same. Only difference: the smaller cap uses 640 watts, the larger uses 765 watts. Spent 16 min with one rep via chat, 8 min with another via the phone, only difference the chat person could find was the wattage; neither could find out anything about the motor. Are we to assume one would have a larger motor, therefore be more effective? Or could they have the same motor, but somehow be set up to draw different wattage? My knowledge of physics re: electrical current is not sufficient to know what's what. Does anyone else have any musings? Thanks for all input. I have spent way too much time on this one already (researching brands, reading reviews by experts, reviews by customers, etc.) I'm ready to move on with life.
