Re: [DIY] Dehumidifiers

I had occasion to study these some years ago.
You do NOT want to hear of all the calcs you can do
to determine the most efficient one.

The bigger wattage will mean it will remove more
water per hour. Most folks won't need this. It will be
on less time to do it's task too, but with extra noise
and power use, most people won't need that either.
As it is, 600+/120= 5+Amps. Other stuff will likely be
on that circuit & breaker, too. It may pull 10 Amps on start-up.

Tom Edison in NY, I JUST heard on the news, cut off
some customers today to save its grid, as NY'ers
were using too much power. BTW, do NOT hook
this into a $20 gadget that cuts the power used.
Compressor motors don't like this and will burn
out sooner. Ditto a fridge.

FEW will need the bigger one. With what you $ave,
put a down payment on a Margharita machine. Or a
Victoria Secret bikini... (Late Father's Day Present. ;>)

Lost the dehum on Saturday. Web search led me to the brand I want; can be ordered only, no retailer carries it in stock. Dilemma: get the 50 pint capacity, or the 70 pint? Unit dimensions are the same, reservoir capacity is the same. Only difference: the smaller cap uses 640 watts, the larger uses 765 watts. Spent 16 min with one rep via chat, 8 min with another via the phone, only difference the chat person could find was the wattage; neither could find out anything about the motor. Are we to assume one would have a larger motor, therefore be more effective? Or could they have the same motor, but somehow be set up to draw different wattage? My knowledge of physics re: electrical current is not sufficient to know what's what. Does anyone else have any musings? Thanks for all input. I have spent way too much time on this one already (researching brands, reading reviews by experts, reviews by customers, etc.) I'm ready to move on with life. Christine - Mpls
