Thanks.
I do have a few motion detector lights outside: mine seems to notice far more aliens than yours do, going on and off, bright and dim, for reasons best known only to themselves, all night long, even when wind isn't blowing tree branches or leaves around. I don't trust them to know or care what's really going on. I don't want to have to go outside, or walk up to them to get them to come on. If they feel like coming on.
I just want to be able to turn all three house porch lights on and off when I want them on or off, all at once, and to stay on (or off) until I want them that way. I don't want this so much for security as to be able to easily see the immediate vicinity of the house, as when I let the dogs out, or when I get halfway to the barn before remembering to turn on the water line to it, the turnon for which is by the back door but hard to find in the dark. Then I get to either fumble and stumble, or else go back in by the front door just to turn on the light by the back door, since the back door is locked. I also want to be able to turn on the lights after parking and crossing to the house, since I don't want to leave them on for hours while I'm away, but might want to enter by any one of the three doors.
And, of course, I'm far enough from town that my internet connection is a portable hot spot with limited max monthly usage and iffy reliability. There is no way to leave it on, or even trust it to stay on for long.
These are just examples. I don't want to overthink, or overplan, or build the Brooklyn Bridge to cross a frog pond.

I wonder if this will help--
We just use the sensor activate lights which come on
only at night when motion is detected..$27 each at home
depot//
By the light we ($49-99 online amazon, free shipping)
have an wi-fi ready video cam which we can access anywhere
over the net...x10 works well for us as well...but with
the auto sensor we know that it only goes on when movement
may be close to the house...otherwise any noises are
produced by the neighbors and not a bad-person....but it
requires leaving a computer on all the time to see the
video...alternate is mnust pure video without going onto
the net...but wireless is a snap...just move the cam
and hook to 110 VAC and you are on the air...by the way
we choose max range and purchased the 120 degree sensors
and we have 1 cam that has also built in motion detect
alarm, the others are dumb wi-fi cams.
We are also thinking of adding other even dumber cams
because our solar panel's wi-fi data bridge has 3 extra
hard wired ethernet ports.
Rich and Kate,
also with scarey noises around the house...
PS-
almost all our noises are 'coons, skunks or moles
the other 1% are clearly aliens that never show
up on our video for some reason...some day...;-)
