[DIY] Re: AC weak

If the air conditioner is not keeping up and the outdoor unit is running
what does it mean that the copper tubing running to the furnace is iced up?

J Hnidy

It can mean: a) dirty air filter, or b) the inside fan failed to run/ is cycling/ running slow, or c) inside coil is DIRTY/ needs cleaning.  d) It can also mean that thermostat set too low (below 70'f) and starting icing at night, when outside temp dropped.  ACTION: Install new air filter, Turn Cool/ Heat switch to OFF, and turn Fan switch to ON, and allow fan to run an hour+ to defrost coil well.  Turn back on, and you may have no further trouble (or for weeks/ months); schedule cleaning in FALL if no other problems, and it will be cheaper
There are a few other possibilities, but they are technical, and above is (most) likely...

Probably didn't hurt anything.

I have put in a new filter and have turned the fan on to low.  Fan only.  The ice has left the tubes but I bet there is still ice on the coil.  Water is draining from the plastic pipe that leads the water to the drain.  This is the last time I buy the super filter.  I hope that I did not wait too long to discover this problem.

Thanks.

RE: [DIY] AC weak

You need to have the gas (R20, I think - the replacement for Freon) added.  Also you need to clean the outside unit's box.  Sometimes dirt and mowed grass and leaves clog it up.  Also check your filter.

Re: [DIY] Small hole fiberglass shower

Yes, epoxy works and usually is permenant.  I buy the $2 tubes from Harbor Freight, as once opened,  I found it is better to mix both tubes totally.  Once mixed, you might have one or two minutes working time.  That hole is very small.  I work with wood a lot and I know using epoxy as a wood filler - once sanded a little  will take paint.  I usually mix a little, very little, sawdust in with the epoxy and then with the small hole you describe, you might not need backing but you will need to sand it.  But I would forget it if you believe it is OK that the small patch shows.  A dab of matching paint and most likely no one will know that you patched a small hole.

I've found that epoxy works very well in the place of polyester resin.
I got some from a hobby store that was for model making.
It pretty much works a lot like polyester resin and cleans up with alcohol.
Putting a piece of tape on one side of the hole helps to develop a layer.
I found 5 minute and 30 minute epoxy. The five minute worked the best for me.
If you have some fiberglass matt to add to it, it works just the same as polyester resin.
I used it to fix a fiberglass body on a golf cart. It worked just like polyester resin without the smell, it also cleans up with alcohol.
The only thing was it was a yellowish clear color. But I found that oil based artists paints colored it quite well.

Buy a set of "non-slip" tub decals and make a nice design in the area of

your little hole....Of course, one of the decals WILL be covering the hole.

Call a boat dealer, and maybe he can refer you to a good fiberglass man.  I watched a factory rep come in on a hospital shower once, and within 20-40-minutes, you could not find the spot, all repaired/ buffed out

I had read a few reviews on that model that suggested that the light doesn't activate on its own.  When you touch the touchscreen, it simultaneously activates the light as well as whatever button you pushed (Menu, Arrow Up, Fan...).

I opted for a different brand.  Wi-fi enabled.  Also has its own dedicated backlight button.

You are "overthinking": Actually, first push of up/ down does NOT change setting, it just activates display, biggest problem is low battery stops it from working; Fried circuits, I imagine, is rare (I would be more concerned w/ the $600 circuit board replacement bill on the heater than the $25-$50 DIY t'stat)
