While the batteries may be new/ newer, what you do NOT KNOW is if the new batteries are GOOD? Get a new set of Duracells, and try them before otherwise wasting time. (Short version=) I have seen new batteries of other brands fail within minutes, or be "marginal voltage". Also, clean the terminals with a pencil eraser before installing. (Remember) Replacing six light bulbs will never fix a bad switch
