One of the things I've become more aware of is the common types of stainless available. 316 stainless is more resistant to salt, 304 and 308 stainless will rust in a salt environment.
I made a pulley for someone out of 316 stainless and they used a pole to hold the pulley that was made from 308 stainless. They used it out at sea to pull in lobster traps. The 308 pole rusted pretty badly but the 316 on the pulley didn't.
Just something that isn't commonly known. I didn't know it before that. 316 has molybdenum in it, that makes it more resistant to corrosion. Just in case you have a choice, you'll know which one is preferable. The little that the 308 rusts probably wouldn't be a factor but if you live near an ocean it might make it look better over time. It doesn't rust like steel or iron does, its more of red pits in the metal.

Thanks freespirt, Rich, Steve, Ray and David. Looks like a lot of nice options. Stainless steel staples and all of those cool varieties of nail-in staples. They seem to have something for everything these days. Thank you.
