Bubbling would have actually been fine. This was glued so well that any
attempt to remove the wallpaper from the sheetrock meant total destruction
*of* the sheetrock. They patched the spot of attempt, and painted over.
This was long before my DIY days, but I'll not forget what happened.
Perhaps not so oddly, that particular house had a lot of problems like that,
and had been owned and lived in by a contractor at one time. Seems he did
good work if it belonged to someone else, but his own house was...something
else.
