Re: [DIY] sawdust toilet / Re: ? about trailer home

What a great idea! (the sawdust or kitty litter stuff) Can you imagine, here in Florida where we live, the city system is taking waste water and purifying it for home water. But they say it's clean enough for drinking.

Easiest, simplest, cheapest, best solution. Same principle as a kitty litter box. And it does not stink.

- 5-gal. plastic bucket
- "sawdust" (from a sawmill, or leaf-mold from forest floor, or bags of wood-shavings sold for horse bedding, or ...)
- some way to sit on it (build a box w/ seat, buy a $10 little seat made for the bucket, from Amazon...)
- compost pile (or if it's just urine, there's probably a perfectly reasonable way to put it in the dumpster, like rinsing it first, maybe...)

Long story short, get _The Humanure Handbook_ by Joseph Jenkins. Should be required reading for everyone on the planet.

My favorite point in the book is how so much of the world would be horrified to see us sh**ting in a bowl of drinking water...

When we lived out in the country, we exclusively used sawdust toilets, until I figured I'd better go ahead and put in a septic system so there would be more potential buyers for the place...

Before the sawdust toilets -- the thought of a septic system still absolutely horrifies me! -- I tried an electric compost toilet. I'm sure there are really good electric/non-electric compost toilets out there, but the Sancor Enviro-let is NOT one of them!
