Re: [DIY] Water Level Indicator for a Shop Vac?

As long as BOTH ends are attached with air-tight fittings it will work fine. PVC fittings for this puirpose can be obtained at most hardware stores. they seal with "O" rings. If you can not get clear vinyl tubing there, go to a motorcycle shop, and get 3/8" clear fuel line.

thanks Steve. That's a great idea and I found an online aquarium supply that has the right size bulkhead fitting however now I wonder....

the sides are curved and I'm not sure if the fitting would sit flush against the side which would compound the problem of getting a good

watertight fit.

I'm thinking that maybe a small, thin pliable rubber bushing between the nut of the fitting and the interior wall of the shop vac applied with a generous

helping of silicone might do the trick.

Or, depending on just how much gap I actually have because of the curvature of the wall, just tighten it as much as I can and then go nuts with the silicone to fill any gaps.
