I took the whole three days, mostly waiting for the glue to dry, but my
bedroom door's back up where it belongs. Pictures of the process -
These are the original screws. The longest is 2 inches. I replaced them
with 3 1/2 inch screws.

Day one -
Fill in where the old wood had split. I chiseled out the old wood and
filled the space with pieces of shims, glued together and glued in the
space. Wait for the glue to dry.

Day two (morning) -
Trim off the shim "plugs" level with the wood. My Rigid JobMax was perfect
for the job.

Next step was to drill out the old screw holes and plug them with pieces of
3/8 inch dowel glued in place. Wait for the glue to dry.

Day two (evening) -
Trim the dowel plugs off flush. Again, the JobMax worked beautifully. Then
it was fit the hinge over all the plugged wood and use a felt pen to mark
the holes.

Day three (today) -
Tap a starter "hole" in the center of each black marked circle. Use a small
drill bit to make a pilot hole for the new screws. Screw the hinge back
where it belongs. Struggle to get the heavy door back up on the hinges so
that the pins can be inserted. (Board under the door to hold it up to the
right height helps.) Insert pins. Voila! The door's back on. This shows
the hinge with the door open.

And this shows the hinge with the door closed.

All of the old/original doors have their hinges placed like this.
