You need a level at least 24" long and some thin pieces of wood like
thick shavings...about 1mm thick or so..not too thick or the door
will not close properly...there needs to be some space (a gap) between
the door edges and the surrounding frame to adjust...if it is tight
then let me know for other method.
Loosen all the hinge screws slightly so you can move the door
up/down and left/right/in/out from the hinges.
Place level on top of door and note which way you have to
pull the door to level
Do the same on the edge and sides of the door...and not the
displacement needed to bring everything in level
It is a trial and error process that should go quickly once you get the
hang of it...ahhh...no pun intended..
Two people are better...once to note level and other the displacement of
the hinges and to place shims under the loosen hinge...shims should be
placed evenly under the hinge so not to skew the door travel...when you are
done the door gap should be even on all 4 sides...
Once it is level, barring any wind drafts, it will stay put where you want it...
When we hang doors the shimming is easier because we shim the frame
level and attaching door is automatically level for the most part..
best,
Rich'

Subject: [DIY] Door
My bathroom door into the commode room keeps shutting. It will not stay open and when I try to clean it is a real pain. How do you get a door to stay open. I assume it is obviously not level, but I have tried loosening some of the hinges and tightening others but it still shuts every time. How do I fix this please?
