re: Deck coating, time will tell on the new "deck-over' paint like coatings; OTOH, if splintering is the issue though, there have been sand/ reseal that can extend the life. The worst thing you can do is "do nothing", but you might get another 10-years with only minor repair/ board replacement. Terry/ Memphis
