[DIY] To remove the tree or not.

My husband and I are planning on putting in a 29' x 14' concrete patio along the side of our house. Our problem is that there is a 15' dogwood tree that is right in the middle of the where the patio is going to be and we really hate to cut it down as it gives some shade so we are debating on leaving the tree, constructing the form for the concrete about 1 1/2' around the edge of the tree trunk and pouring the concrete. I did notice as we were leveling that ground out in preparation for the patio that there were only a few very small roots uncovered. We do plan on putting about 2-3 inches of #57 stone and then 3-4 inches of concrete. I'm concerned that the roots from the tree will eventually crack the concrete. Any suggestions?
