Re: [DIY] Speaking of outlets

Can't explain if outlets are few, but bathrooms are an issue.
Basic rules are;
None within 2 ft of a door, (unless around a corner.)
One every 6 ft of wall.
Hallway outlets are discouraged, usually.

Kitchens also have, not within 2 ft of a sink.
Bathroom also have, not within 2 ft of a tub, etc.
And running a wire/romex is strongly preferred in a wall-stud-"bay,"
which has no plumbing. Add that to doorway rules etc and you can
have issues of lack of a position for placement or wire running.

That said, There ARE safe ways we can direct you to explore,
in many cases. Simple short set of rules to follow. Or ask a guy
to take a look, and do a free estimate. But I'd at least give him
$10 "for gas." I learned this at 8 yo., self taught. And I was allowed,
though my friend's mom's would never allow me to remove a fuse,
(no ckt brkrs back then, LOL) as THAT... could be dangerous.
If *I* can do that, safely, then you can do it. You plainly are not in a
rush. Good. That's safety step #1. ;>) Be happy to do so over
phone. Maybe it will be easy. Maybe you'll look, and decide it's
a no-go. This might take a pro, as little as 20 minutes, or 1.5 hrs.
He/she has a truck of goodies. YOU might have to add a trip to the store.

My only knowledge of electricity is turning a light on and off :) Would defnitely have the electrician do it, however, it sounds more costly than I had hoped. It would probably be fairly easy to run it under the house and up -- but the labor would be much higher. Lived with it for 6 years so will continue. One of the things I loved about building our own homes, I had all the outlets I needed, where I needed them! >Don't understand the builder though, this is an upper-middle class home, guess that's what you'd call it, less than 20 years old. He was/is a skilled builder and his homes are sought after for the high quality. So why are there so few outlets in the house? It couldn't have been cost, wonder if it was something as simple as the area? Maybe builders in the midwest didn't put a high priority on that type of thing?
