I would use a metal pole. If appearane doesn't matter, go with the cheapest - possibly a piece of galvanized pipe. You can put a T on the top and tie the clothes line to that so it won't slip down. Maybe there is a cheaper way that someone else knows about?

Subject: [DIY] Clothes Pole Question
I lost a large tree I had in the back yard last year and now want to put up a clothes pole that would connect a clothesline to the side of my garage. I had a hole dug and it's as deep as a fence post was installed. I have to get this done before I find my 4 year old grandson filling it in again!
In the past we installed a yardlight with a bag of redi crete or something like that, where you dump the contents in the hole then add water and let it seep down on it's own.
Ideas for the pole - wood or do they sell metal things like this? I would be happy with just one line from the pole to the garage. I've always had a clothesline but always with a tree. I'm in Wisconsin so have to deal with freezing in winter so this has to be considered when installing.
Pole matierial, depth of hole and type of concrete advice please.
Thanks,
Nancy
