Most all plastics degrade from UV exposure as well as loosing their plastimers, the stuff that keeps them soft and pliable. I have never had any luck with hoses. They never seem to last. This area gets some pretty intense sun in the summers, inland Southern California.
I'll keep that in mind for rubber and vinyl when I look for another hose. Never seems to be any good ones available. The only thing any of the big box stores seem to carry is junk. Just bought one, doubt it will last long.

after 40 years of home ownership, I have the most unbelievable collection of water hoses. Most repaired, shortened and split. Every thing from a $1.99 Walmart special to an expensive "clean" hose that I used to have to hook my camper up to the water supply. I want to pitch the whole bunch and buy a couple good hoses that won't get stiff as a board when rolled up. Can anyone advise me as to what materials I should be looking for in a hose to get the service I need. I am on a private well and the water is freezing cold so it doesn't take much to stiffen them up.
