I have been using those porcelain light fixtures for my crawl space; according to NEC it has to have a guard, so I've been using the yellow plastic ones from Lowe's. Now Lowe's doesn't carry them anymore. What they have is a metal fixture and guard set which is great, except that instead of paying $5 for the porcelain fixture and guard, you now have to pay $25 for the metal assembly.
My question is: does anyone know if the NEC now states that the plastic guards are no longer to code? I'm using them in spaces where only I have access to and positioned out-of-the-way of things, so I don't foresee anyone hitting them with any force to break the bulb.
