I swore that I would never live in a trailer, never, never, never. Well, guess what? My home since June 2011 is a 1979 Magnolia fold-out, 24 X 50.
While people made gloomy predictions about how long it would last since it wasn't a 'real' house and was only designed to be temporary, I decided to treat it like a cheaply made 30-year-old real house, and had repairs done to it in that frame of mind. As a result, about $4,000 total has rendered the creaking, sagging, leaking thing sound and solid, with fine plumbing, a to-code electrical system, inexpensive and efficient heating and cooling, no rain or air leaks, and a Rustoleum-from-the-can spray paint job that even made it look fairly smart.
What might be best of all is that, knowing it's worth about $12.95 total and will never be worth more than that, I feel no compulsion to renovate or modernize anything, just keep it working well as what it is. And the dogs and I are very, very comfortable.
