Do the lower voltage bulbs last longer and break less easy?
Thanks GB
You were answered correctly.
And SOMEtimes you can get a 130V bulb.
These will not be as light efficient, as a 120V bulb.
Actually, some photographers use 120V bulbs at 130V
(they need a small step-up transformer.) They get a
brighter, whiter light... that lasts not the usual 1-2000
hours, but a mere 10.
BUT -
MeThinks that you meant to ask, "Lower Wattage" bulbs.
To which I will answer, Yes, but ever so slightly that
it is unnoticeable. If you put a 150W bulb where a
250 is allowed, it will run a tad cooler, and last a
tad longer. But don't count on a lot of difference.
I love the cooler housing. A person does come
into contact with these now and then. They get HOT.
Main thing with these is total cleanliness when inserting
a new bulb. Not just clean fingers - Use a tissue.
Dirt, finger oils, are death to these.
The bulbs are sorta high-pressure, so safety glasses
when removing & installing is good. If you drop 1,
(while I am adept at putting a foot under, LOL,)
avert your face and close your eyes.
For plain mechanic's lamps, there is a "ruggedized"
incandescent bulb. Wonder if they will make these,
when the law disallowing manufacture goes into
effect, in a year or two...
BTW -
I don't mod here, and a lotta guys know more than I,
or remember something I didn't, so toss your questions
to the wind and someone will grab them & you'll get dif
points of view, also... LOL!
