Use a hand stone (not a file). Sharpen on the cutting edge. Keep the stone at the same angle used originally, usually about 60 degrees. Do not use a power grinder, unless you are experienced. Power grinding too fast will burn the edges, making them soft and subject to needinf frequent sharpening.
