Trying to lift with only one spring working is pulling the whole door our of kilter.

One of the extension springs broke, and now the top panel binds on the ceiling (?) or somewhere. I can lift the door approx 2 inches, then it stops. Is something out of kilter, or what would likely prevent the door from lifting? I realize the springs need replacement, but wonder why the door will not lift open. Strikes me as odd.
