If they used it to completely wipe the entire drive, then yes you can and will need to install any operating system (so long as it's compatible with the motherboard/chipset/BIOS/Drivers).

If they did that and you currently have no OS, then I'm not sure what you are reading in Portuguese unless it's the BIOS bootup screen. 

It's probably best that you seek a computer forum for this.  You've given minimal details about the computer and what was done to it.  It sounds like you may not even know yourself which may be understandable.  Why not ask your son's friend what he/she did?
