I had that problem once and had to remove the other spring before I got to the hardware store to buy new ones. Replace both springs; if you buy only one, there is a good chance of the older spring being weaker. Also, if you accidentally get the wrong type, then you can adjust both till they are doing the job right.

Hi All,
The garage door is a single stall door made of wood. I can manually open and close the door with no trouble.
One of the extension springs broke, and now the top panel binds on the ceiling (?) or somewhere. I can lift the door approx 2 inches, then it stops. Is something out of kilter, or what would likely prevent the door from lifting? I realize the springs need replacement, but wonder why the door will not lift open. Strikes me as odd.
