Re: [DIY] Painting concrete floors

Try industrial flor dryer. You spread the granules ang work around with a broom. Then, let is stand overnight, and sweep up. It gets oil, and the moisture in the concrete. Floor will turn white. If you can't get the floor dryer, use kitty litter. (diatomaceous earth)

Acid in an enclosed area will etch faucets and other things like lungs.  Try paint thinner and cat litter.  Apply the thinner in liberal amounts and then cover with litter to absorb the loosened oil and grease, repeat as necessary until the grease and oil is gone.  MEK works too but is highly flammable so I would not recommend it for inside use.  Do not use vacuum as the motor can ignite the fumes from the thinner.  Use broom and dust pan for clean up.  An old two brush floor scrubber will also help in loosening the grease and oil.  You might also try scrubbing with Simple Green instead of thinner, safer but slower and it does remove grease and oil.  I use it straight and you can use a shop vac without fear of starting a fire.

Heard back from Sherwin Williams, and what they advertise and what the say are a little different.  The old grease stains would need to be removed - which if I could remove them I wouldn't have a problem.  Frustrating as I have nice area rugs but the concrete showing is downright ugly.
